Picture of the month Our Story  We are a volunteer driven non-profit organization. Our primary focus is the preservation of the Selkirk Mental Health  Centre ‘s historical artefacts and legacy.  The Archive committee was formed in 1999 to gather and preserve over 140 years plus of rich history of Manitoba’s psychiatric / mental health care.  Tours of the archives may be arranged through contacting the Committee’s Secretary by using the “Contact Us” tab above.  The archives are located in the Administration building; former School of Nursing and nurses residence.  We have 3 rooms of memorabilia, scrap books, newspaper clippings, uniforms, grad pins and photographs.

Pat and Kim Hubick
The Hubick Family . . . The Hubick Family bequeathed a generous donation to the SMHC Archives Committee. Their generosity will help us towards achieving our aims.  Patricia Hubick worked at the Selkirk Mental Heath Centre as a medical secretary for over 25 years.  After her retirement, Pat joined the SMHC Archives committee as one of the founding members in1999. She was an active member and occupied the role of committee Secretary. Patricia died in 2015.     Kimberley Hubick, Pat’s daughter, worked at Selkirk Mental Health Centre for 35 years in the Occupational Therapy department and in 1999 Kim also joined the SMHC Archives committee occupying the role of Treasurer. Kimberley died in 2016.
HISTORY  OFSMHC click Selkirk Psychiatric Institute 1964 Our Aims & Objectives •	To maintain the storage and management of the material and artefacts held within the Archives.  •	To conduct research in response to straightforward enquiries and advise researchers on more complex subjects.  •	To actively encourage additional donations and deposits of archival material relating to SMHC.  •	To preserve material about individuals with a connection to SHMC, from the Centre and from members of the public.  •	To develop an outreach programme with the aim of encouraging the use of the Archives.  Please Note: Neither patient nor staff records / data are stored within the Archives.

WELCOME to the  Selkirk Mental Health Centre Archives.  We are a volunteer non-profit driven committee.  Our primary objective is to keep our history alive by honouring all those associated with this Institution over the past 140 plus years.  Tribute is paid to their unique contributions that helped develop exemplary mental health care for Manitoba.
