UK 100 Years of Nurse Regulation
December 23rd, 2019 celebrates the 100 years that the General Nursing Council England & Wales started their registration of nurses in 1919. The first UK nurse to be registered was Ethel Bedford Fenwick. Ethel also founded the International Council of Nurses.Interestingly, Florence Nightingale, the “Nursing Champion”, was totally opposed to nurse registration and refused to be entered onto the register.
